Our Story

THE SPARK THAT STARTED IT ALL

Our journey began with a simple yet profound spark: a deep love for the night sky and a dream to share its magic with others. For Luca, this fascination was ignited as a child, walking on the beach with his dad and learning about constellations and the wonders of the universe above. After dedicating too many years to a successful career as a chef, Luca made a bold leap to pursue his true calling. He then became an Astronomy Guide at the world-renowned University of Canterbury Mt John Observatory in Lake Tekapo, fulfilling a lifelong passion.

FROM DREAM TO AKAROA STARGAZING

In February 2022, we founded Akaroa Stargazing, bringing together Luca's passion for astronomy and Manon's manaakitanga. Our son Eros was born a few months later, and he's been our biggest inspiration ever since! His curiosity reminds us daily of the universal wonder we aim to share. We decided to build our life and business here in Akaroa, bringing our passion for the cosmos to this incredible part of New Zealand.

MEET OUR TEAM

When you join Akaroa Stargazing, you’re not just booking a tour, you’re stepping into our world. Our journey began with a simple mission: to share the profound beauty of the Banks Peninsula’s dark skies through authentic, astronomer-led discovery. As a family-owned and operated business, we pride ourselves on a personal touch, ensuring that every guest feels like part of the story from the moment they arrive at our dark-sky site.
